CIP’s main successes in 2024

In 2024, the CIP Secretariat exceeded many of its stated objectives, including promoting successful practices and knowledge exchange among port stakeholders. Through 12 technical webinars with several thousand participants, the CIP provided a hemispheric platform to address some of the sector’s most pressing issues, such as digitalisation, resilience, sustainability, security, and legislation. Furthermore, in three Hemispheric Conferences on Port Competitiveness Port Security; and Port Legislation.

At a regional Table-Top Exercise on Disaster Risk Management, with more than 500 attendees, the CIP enabled the sharing of successful practices and consequent formulation of strategic actions to promote the competitive, sustainable, secure, and inclusive development of the port sector in the Americas.

Most valuable lessons learned in 2024

The most valuable lesson in 2024 was that collaboration is an invaluable driver for port sector development. In 2024, the CIP set a new record number of Associate Members and Strategic Partners, having recently signed Memoranda of Understanding with the Caribbean Maritime University (CMU) and World Maritime University (WMU) to increase its capacity-building offerings. Importantly, collaboration between CIP National Port Authorities resulted in inter-regional initiatives in Maritime Single Window implementation, as well as disaster risk management that will continue to shape the CIP’s priorities in 2025.

Foremost objectives for 2025

The CIP constantly monitors the gaps in a continuously changing maritime and port sector to bring concrete results to regional matters and challenges. Against this backdrop, in 2025, the CIP will aim to increase its capacity building offerings in collaboration with its partners, including CMU, WMU, the Port Authority of Peru, Argentina Port Administration, the Uruguay Navigation Center, United States Coast Guard, Port Authority of Spain, and others.

As the port sector in the Americas continues to evolve, the need to strengthen the human and institutional capacities of CIP National Port Authorities will remain a key priority for the CIP in 2025.
