The Port Management Association of the Caribbean, Caribbean Maritime University and the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) have pledged to work together. Formality was given to this decision on January 23, 2018 in Panama City, at the inaugural PMAC-Portside Caribbean Port Management Workshop, held at the Sheraton Grand Panama. Representatives from the three organizations endorsed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which outlined the scope and depth of their relationship.
The signing of this MOU indicates CDEMA’s firm interest in continued participation in the PMAC-led discussions regarding the establishment of a regional quick-response disaster relief network. CDEMA is the regional inter-governmental agency for disaster management in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) group of countries. PMAC Chair, Bishen John, signed on behalf of the PMAC. Professor Fritz Pinnock, President of the University and Joanne Persad, Programme Manager, Preparedness and Response, signed for their respective organizations.
