The area, a popular destination with its chain of small cays and private islands, is renowned for its spectacular diving and exciting fishing excursions.The 322-ft. vessel left Puerto Cortes in Honduras on March 25, headed for Port Everglades, Fort Lauderdale (USA) when it reported engine failure. It went NUC (not under control) and grounded on a reef east of Belize’s Drowned Cays.On March 28, the Belize Port Authority reported that, after unsuccessful attempts, the ship was eventually refloated. However, it was detained pending an official investigation and report of damage to reefs by the country’s Department of the Environment.
