The facility, located on the Eastern side of Kingston Harbour, has been named German Ship Repair Jamaica.
Its first client ship is expected to dry dock in November.The US$37-million investment will allow Jamaica to drydock vessels of up to 215 metres. Local investors are joined in the venture by the Harren & Partner conglomerate and the Kloska Group, both of Bremen, Germany.The facility is planned to deliver a full range of services – electrical, electronic, mechanical, hull repairs and painting. This includes repair and maintenance of auxiliary motors and main engines. The first phase of the development will include the commissioning of a floating dry dock and establishment of marine engine workshops. Total work crew and other staff is expected to number about 100.
