Maersk Line expects to spend more than 2 billion USD to meet the IMO sulphur limit. The line said it would introduce a new Bunker Adjustment Factor (BAF) surcharge on January 1, 2019 to recover costs related to
compliance with the global 0.5% sulphur cap. The IMO restriction will be enforced a year later. The BAF surcharge will be charged separately from the freight rate. Despite recent investments in scrubbers, Maersk expects to use mainly low sulphur fuel to meet the sulphur cap restrictions.
